War of the Worlds
What I found interesting about the radio broadcast of War of the Worlds was that it was made so authentically that many mistook it for the real thing. The reason it was so effective, I think, is because it used real places, a news report style and had music dispersed throughout, which made the 'urgent news reports,' sound more credible. It still seems strange that so many people believed it, though. Maybe it is only that way to us because we usually require visual and multiple-source verification of information before we believe it.
